KLIA 2018 Events

Boater Safety Course

Event Date: June 29, 2019

The KLIA will again sponsor a Boater Safety Course which will be held on June 29, 2019 at the Forestport Town Hall. This is an eight-hour class that will be presented by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. When registering with the Sheriff's Office be sure to tell them that you are a KLIA member as there are reserved slots for the course designated for KLIA members. Upon successful completion of the course, attendees will receive NYS certificates of completion that are required for any over the age of 10 to operate any motorboat, and those of any age to operate any PWC.

There is no cost to attend and you must be at least 10years old. The class starts at 9:00. Preregistration is desired but not mandatory. You may call Robert Snider at 315-765-2222 or go to www.nysparks.state.ny.us/recreation/boating/safety-courses.aspxto register for this class and for information on other courses being offered. The KLIA will provide coffee, juice, and donuts. You should bring your own lunch as the class will take most of the day.

Island Fun Day!

Event Date: July 27, 2019

This Kayuta traditional event will continue in 2019 though it is scheduled a week later than usual – Saturday, July 27th (rain date Sunday, July 28th). The festivities will start at 1 pm on the islands. With any luck, the sandbar will remain this year but space is always at a premium. Please ride with a neighbor so everyone can join the fun.

KLIA will be providing (for paid members, their families and friends) grilled burgers, dogs and sausage patties will be served by none other than KLIA’s favorite caterer and friend, Henry Alberico. KLIA will also provide thirst quenching beverages and snacks. Members are encouraged to bring a dish or dessert to put on the tables and share. John Duda and his family will again provide the main entertainment, all your favorite island fun day music new and old, to kick off your sandals and strut your stuff. We are very grateful to the Duda’s for their contribution to this event—it is a great deal of work to cart all that equipment to a remote location. Please be kind and save a spot for them to park close to the DJ tent.

Volunteers to help conduct the children’s events are desperately needed this year. If you would like to help organize and run some fun kids games please contact a board member at your earliest convenience. Sarah did an awesome job last year but could use all the help that we can provide.

Kayuta Lake Ski School

Two week-long classes 2019

Back by popular demand, Camp Mohawk Valley Waterski School will return to Kayuta Lake once more in 2019! Please try to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to learn or improve the skills of this popular sport.

Ski School will be held two weeks prior to the Ski School and X-Squad SkiShow. There are currently still openings for both weeks and all ski school students are invited to participate in the ski school show Saturday, August 17th before the X-Squad Ski Show. The Serth family loves holding ski school at Kayuta Lake and hope for another successful season. Ski school will be held at the Corrigan residence and anyone interested in attending can call 518-864-5565 or email cmvski@aol.comfor more information on ski school and how to enroll! Camp Mohawk Valley Ski School and the Kayuta Lake Improvement Association will again be sponsoring two “scholarships” to the ski school one last time also. Each student enrolled or interested in enrolling for ski school is encouraged to write a letter to ski school about why they would like to go to ski school, what they really enjoy about ski school and their favorite things they’ve learned or goals that they hope to attain at ski school.

The letters may be mailed to the address below or emailed to cmvski@aol.comwith the email subject ‘ski school letter’. All entries must be received by July 21st and only one entry per student will be considered. Please be sure the students’ name, address, phone number, and age are on the letter. The authors of the 2 most compelling letters will each win a free week at ski school, one winner being sponsored by the Kayuta Lake Improvement Association and the other by Camp Mohawk Valley Water SkiSchool. The winners will be announced on August 1st. Good luck to all and we will see you on the lake soon!

Ski School and X-Squad SkiShow

Event Date: August 17, 2019

This fantastic tradition will continue in 2019 also with the annual Camp Mohawk Valley Exhibition Squad Water Ski Show! The X-Squad show is set for Saturday August 17th (rain date in August 18th) at 2pm with the Ski School show beginning at 1:00pm.

As in previous years, the Ski School Show is open to ANY student who attends EITHER week of ski school at Kayuta Lake. Ski School kids are asked to arrive at 11:30am to prepare for the show.

This is the most widely attended event sponsored by KLIA so if you’ve never seen the show, you will not be disappointed. The show will take place at the same spot as usual on the north side of Dustin Bridge in front of the Corrigan home. The show space will be buoyed off and spectators are expected to anchor on the outside of the buoys for the safety of the skiers.

The X Squad is looking forward to yet another fantastic year on Kayuta Lake!
